Loci now runs Phonon as the default TTS engine on mobile. Try it out today at our link in bio
A new frontier for on-device speech.
We're open-sourcing Phonon, a suite of TTS models under 50m parameters, setting a new standard for naturalness and accuracy across languages, with the broadest inference support to date.
Phonon-31m is available under Apache 2.0.

Gradium just released Phonon, an open weights TTS model small enough for a CPU.
Micdrop now runs it inside your Node voice agent, with no API key, no GPU and no audio leaving the machine. First words in under 100 ms.
Five languages, 102 voices 👇

Congrats on the launch, Gradium team! 🎉
We shipped the Micdrop integration today, so Phonon now runs inside a Node voice agent, on the CPU, with no API key. First audio in 30 to 100 ms on a single M2 core, incredible!

We just added an OpenAI-compatible `/v1/audio/speech` endpoint.
And we couldn't have picked a better model to launch it
with than Phonon, @GradiumAI brand-new on-device TTS: tiny, fast and multilingual.

Eating consistently while traveling is hard. Especially when you’re managing fatty liver and trying to be more mindful of your food choices.
Airport meals, hotel buffets, unfamiliar menus, and another promise to “get back on track when I’m home.”
So I started building Tend, an AI nutrition coach for people who travel ✈️🥗
Tend is still being developed, but I built an open-source version of the meal-analysis experience called Mealsight so you can try the vision + voice workflow yourself.
The idea: show the assistant your meal, talk about it, and ask follow-up questions.
How it works:
→ Upload a food photo or describe what you ate
→ The vision model analyzes the image and identifies the meal
→ Review what the AI identified
→ A confidence check asks for clarification when the meal is uncertain
→ Continue the conversation with questions about your food
It runs on @NVIDIAAI Nemotron 3.5 Super VL through @nebiustf powering the visual understanding and meal-related responses. The part I find most useful is being able to move from a food photo into a conversation without manually describing everything on the plate.
@GradiumAI brings in voice 🎙️
→ Speech-to-text for describing meals and asking questions aloud
→ Text-to-speech for hearing the assistant’s responses

Voice Localization 🙌🏻
I built a Pop Culture Localizer so you can hear popular dialogues in different languages and accents.

Developers can now localize existing voices to another language or regional accent while preserving its timbre, age, pace, and character.
Voice Localization is available through Gradium Studio and API.

You can now describe a voice in one sentence and get a few AI-generated versions of it back. Something like "calm, mid-30s, Irish accent, front desk at a dental clinic." You don't need a recording or a voice actor.
That makes trying voices cheap. Picking the one that holds up on real calls is harder, and that's what our new guide covers:
1. Write the prompt like a casting brief. Cover age, accent, pace and energy, and end with what the voice is for. A receptionist and a collections agent shouldn't sound alike.
2. Adjectives don't translate. In @GradiumAI's rating data, US listeners kept 76% of the voices made from a "warm" prompt. French listeners kept 53%. Write a separate prompt for each language and use case, with a native speaker.
3. Don't pick by gut. Play listeners two voices at a time without saying which is which, and count which one wins more often.
4. Test it on real calls. A voice that sounds great in a demo can still stumble over a card number, an email address, a caller who cuts in, or a bad phone line. Run the same test calls through each finalist and change only the voice.
5. Test again whenever you change the voice model, its settings or the voice ID.
The guide closes with a seven-step checklist to run before launch:

We measured Gradium TTS Beta on our TTS board: 49ms p50, 56ms p90 time to first audio from US East.
That is more than 4x faster than the previous Gradium TTS (217ms p50), with the same naturalness.
Full results: benchmarks.speko.ai/tts
Gradium TTS beta model is out now to define what fast means.
Less than 50ms TTFA, same quality. Most models are >100ms TTFA.

I've always wanted a way to talk to my Mac and do things on the go.
Until now, it was super slow.
So I built Macbrow.
Voice-controlled browser and computer-use agent.
Built using @GradiumAI @browser_use and @typesafeai
Still early and a work in progress.

I love the fact that I can now give my @pipecat_ai bots any voice that I imagine.
Never has it been a better time to be a dreamer.
Used the pipecat voice design skill, gave it an image of Thor, Codex prompted the voice for me, and @GradiumAI created it.
Thanks for creating the skill @JonPTaylor!
We've been experimenting a lot with the new @GradiumAI voice designer.
@jonptaylor wrote a skill that generates three voices based on an image, asks you to choose the one you like best, then creates a voice agent for you to talk to, so you can test the voice in conversation.
You don't have to follow this exact workflow. Once the skill is loaded, your coding agent "knows" enough about the Gradium voice agent designer (and Pipecat) to work with you iteratively. So you can keep prompting for voice changes, modify the agent, change the front-end UI design, etc.
When we work with enterprises building voice agents, we tend to aim for specific kinds of voices. But Jon had fun going creative mode with this one. (Spoiler alert: watch to the end for the dog.)

Robots used to just beep. Now they're expected to listen and talk back - and voice AI will be a huge part of making that work. It's already normal to talk to our devices, and physical AI is about to make that even more common.
So, let's talk about:
🔹 voice-related challenges in robotics
🔹 what voice AI can do to solve them
🔹 and how we can build that future together.
If this sounds interesting to you, you should definitely join our upcoming event. Audio Layer 3.0: Voice AI x Robotics, co-hosted by ai-coustics and @tavus, with @livekit, @GradiumAI, and @lightberry joining the conversation, takes place on September 15.
Just a week left to sign up!
