Que locura. ¿Qué podemos hacer los ajedrecistas desde fuera? ¿Alguna carta? 2026 y el mundo va así…

Jordan’s King Abdullah II:
This Israeli government's appetite is now a regional threat. And today, Syria is the warning.
The international community is choosing not to see repeated incursions, creeping territorial expansion, new facts and posts on the ground, including around vital water resources.
Step by calculated step, Israel is testing how far it can go.
And every time the international community looks away, Israel learns that it can go even further, across borderlines and legal limits.

I would frame this differently: We have a half-dozen papers in our best scientific journals like @ScienceMagazine @CellCellPress detailing the zoonotic spillover origins of Covid caused by SARS-2, just like SARS-1 in 2002 and MERS in 2012. And btw just like Ebola in 2014, 2019, 2026. And btw just like H5N1 in 2024 and Andes hantavirus in 2026. Zoonotic spillover is our new normal and an existential threat to humanity along with climate change. That’s the subject of our recent book, #ScienceUnderSiege with @MichaelEMann In contrast we have zero scientific papers on GOF or lab leak, most likely bc it never happened.
Lab leak is a possibility. Natural origin is equally or more likely. What's NOT viable: treating that unresolved question as settled enough to justify destroying researchers' careers as "justice." Chinese government transparency is where the answer lies not in political grandstanding theatlantic.com/science/2026…

A thread of names of people who appear to have died as a result of USAID cuts.
Independent analyses estimate that your actions to dismantle USAID and drastically reduce lifesaving foreign aid have already killed 700,000 people. Here are some of those people. 🧵xitter.cf/elonmusk/status/206944…

When the NYT published a story questioning Sec. Kennedy's engagement - including the time he spends at #HHS - he angrily retorted that anyone curious about how much time he spends in the office could consult his online calendar.

“This is on track to be one of the largest Ebola outbreaks in history. It’s already the third largest and growing quickly,” says CFR global health expert @spsaki.
Psaki, who worked to track and contain biological threats during the Biden administration, explains what social and political factors contributed to the recent outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the threat it poses outside the region.

Most beszéltem Magyar Péterrel, hogy gratuláljak neki a magyarországi győzelméhez!

I think we have a pretty serious problem.
It is not the role of a NATO Secretary General to make political comments about a member state of the Alliance. It is even a sheer violation of his mandate, which requires complete neutrality.
A stern warning is in order.

The news that Orbán’s people inform Moscow about EU Council meetings in every detail shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. We’ve had our suspicions about that for a long time. That’s one reason why I take the floor only when strictly necessary and say just as much as necessary.

IDF database suggests 83% of Gaza dead were civilians, contradicting by a huge margin Israel claims of a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio of civilian to militant casualties. Israel’s bombardment of Gaza has killed civilians at a rate with few parallels in modern warfare.
