African medical education must be responsive to African realities. our disease burden, health systems, resources, cultures, and communities. we need to strengthen research capacity among young to generate locally relevant evidence and develop context-driven solutions.

Congratulations 🎉 well deserved
#INTERVIEW: As I highlighted in my recent interview with University World News, yes indeed, where you begin should not determine how far you can go. Scientific excellence is built on curiosity, perseverance, integrity, collaboration, and commitment, not on where you come from. Many thanks to journalist Clemence Manyukwe and the University World News @uniworldnews team for inviting me to this interview and for highlighting the 2026 H. Richard Tyler Award that I was honored to receive from the American Academy of Neurology @AANmember in Chicago, USA.

Every impactful research project begins with a single question. As we commence Phase II of the URSSS Surgical Mentorship Program, we are excited to welcome Dr. Faustin MUNYANEZA, MD, MMed, Founder of NextGen MedResearchers(@HomegrownMR ), for an interactive session on: "Introduction to Surgical Research & Formulating a Research Question" Research is more than publishing papers it's about identifying unanswered clinical problems, asking meaningful questions, and generating evidence that transforms surgical practice and improves patient outcomes. Whether your dream is to become a surgeon, clinician-scientist, or academic leader, learning how to formulate a strong research question is the foundation of that journey. 📅 23 July 2026 🕕 6:00 PM CAT (UTC+2) 💻 Google Meet #URSSS #SurgicalMentorship #SurgicalResearch #MedicalResearch #FutureSurgeons – at Rwanda

“The greatest investment you can make is in your own growth embrace challenges, remain teachable, and never stop becoming the physician you aspire to be.” Prof. Julien Gashegu’s powerful message during our mentorship session reminded us that challenges are not barriers, potential should be used today, and the humility to learn from seniors is one of the greatest strengths a future physician can have. Are you a medical resident or recent graduate(last 5 years ) in Rwanda struggling to publish your dissertation or research? Many strong projects never get published not due to poor quality, but barriers like limited mentorship, time, or guidance. Link forms.gle/njmgsbjXiSKEkqj26

Our 8th session for the 2026 cohort of the OHMO Global Research Fellowship Program was held on 10th May 2026 and focused on “Grant Writing.” We are sincerely grateful to Professor Olumide A. Odeyemi, ARM(F), PhD from Australia 🇦🇺for delivering a highly informative, practical, valuable, and insightful training session to OHMO fellows. The session provided excellent guidance on grant writing, including how to identify suitable funding opportunities, develop strong grant proposals, define clear project objectives, prepare realistic budgets, strengthen professional track records, demonstrate innovation and impact, and avoid common mistakes that often lead to grant proposal rejection. Thank you very much Professor Olumide Odeyemi, for your continued support, mentorship, and contribution to empowering young researchers through OHMO. At @OliHealthOrg Oli Health Magazine Organization (OHMO), we remain committed to equipping young researchers globally with the skills, discipline, training, and mentorship needed to conduct high-quality scientific research and contribute meaningfully to global health and academia. 👉🏽🔗 Link to the LinkedIn post: linkedin.com/posts/olivier-u…
