Are voters allowed to have bottom lines? Here's mine. I have spent my life believing that if I or my children need hospital care, we will get it. It’s a fundamental tenet of our welfare state. But it's no longer true. New Substack post at Hopetown today.

The Post’s plea to Mr Luxon and Mr Hipkins is to quit the gang issue for now, and the quasi-McCarthyism of the weekend, and get back to explaining how they plan to tackle the issues that matter to most.

People vote on vibes more than policy. McAnulty is a bogan therefore he would easily beat the airline CEO.
McAnulty was raised catholic on a dairy farm, he used to be a volunteer firefighter, his wife is Ardern’s old press secretary, some of his family are National voters, he did an OE in Ireland to play rugby, he worked at TAB and he used to be a case manager at Work and Income.
If we was leader he wouldn’t have to pretend to be a normal person because he already is one.

The HPV vaccine is CRUSHING cervical cancer and at this rate will eliminate it!!
An anti cancer vaccine!
It's a modern medical miracle
RFK Jr is, of course, against it
He'd rather your daughter get cervical cancer than a vaccine

Folks, allow me to brag about my wife, Jane. She is the head of a group of scientists working on a personalized mRNA vaccine for melanoma. It was announced that the results of her years-long study showed prevention of the cancer--a huge finding. From today's Wall Street Journal:

As someone who saw Covid right from the very start it's quite remarkable to see history totally rewritten and whitewashed
It was a terrifying new virus we knew nothing about that was overwhelming intensive care units
It was scary as hell

#Conservation Amendment Bill now before Parliament is an outrage. It seeks to make economic use & development of public conservation land a core function of Dept of Conservation & makes it easier to dispose of conservation land. Make a submission! Link 🔗:

It’s odd that current Australian/NZ ministerial & leader meetings continue to reference #ANZUS Treaty prominently. #NZ was suspended from ANZUS in 1986 because of its nuclear-free policy that current NZG purports to support. Canberra Pact precedes ANZUS as basis of defence ties.
“Prime Ministers acknowledged the 75th anniversary of the ANZUS Treaty, the foundation of our Alliance and our defence and security partnership. They reaffirmed that our Alliance was critical to safeguard our collective security and support a peaceful, stable and prosperous Pacific region.”
Comment: Weird. Ahistorical. The ANZUS treaty was signed in 1951, rather a long time after the forging of the ANZAC spirit at Gallipoli in 1915 and its subsequent reinforcement on the Western Front and in WW2. NZ has been suspended from the operation of the ANZUS treaty since the mid 80s. But we are meant to believe that our special bond is due to ANZUS. How could NZ agree to such rubbish?

It’s pretty shitty for the kids currently at Uni to have the final year fees free - taken away on a whim.
Many of them started Uni with the incentive of their third year being fees free.
Wouldn’t it be fairer for the Government to honour the final year fees free for students currently in their first and second year?
And then any students beginning Uni in 2027 - make the choice to go to Uni (or not) knowing they will be paying full fees.
