Due to continuous heavy #rainfall and unsafe conditions in the area, including #flooding and the potential risk of landslides and rockfalls, #HellfirePass and walking trail are temporarily closed until further notice.

🚂 ⚠️ Flooding disrupts train services in northern and eastern Thailand
The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has announced major service changes and cancellations following heavy rainfall and flooding over railway tracks on 26 September 2026.
🚆 Northern Line
Flooding has closed part of the main Northern Line in Nakhon Sawan Province, between Nong Pho and Noen Makok stations. This is the main railway between Bangkok and northern Thailand, affecting travel towards destinations including Phitsanulok, Den Chai, Lampang and Chiang Mai.
Some passengers on trains already en route are being transferred by road around the flooded section.
SRT has also cancelled nine long-distance trains from their starting stations, comprising the overnight trains between Bangkok and Chiang Mai in both directions, together with services between Bangkok and Den Chai. The cancellations will remain in place until further notice.
Passengers holding tickets for cancelled trains can receive a full refund at any SRT station nationwide.
🚆 Eastern Line
Flooding has also closed sections of the Eastern Line in Sa Kaeo Province, affecting trains towards Aranyaprathet and the Cambodian border.
Several services from Bangkok towards Chachoengsao, Kabin Buri, Ban Klong Luk and Chuk Samet have been cancelled or shortened.
🌧️ With flooding and weather conditions continuing to change, passengers planning train journeys are strongly advised to check the latest service information before travelling.

There is no denying the bad ride quality of these trains, mainly down to track quality, however I still managed 5 hours sleep and woke up to some stunning #TrainWindowViews and a nice @_DiningCar breakfast in northern Thailand 🇹🇭 #NonstopEurotrip

Phichit Railway Station;
Constructed 1907 under King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) and is only one of two stations designed in formal Italian Neo-Classical architecture, the other being Bangkok Station.
Note one platform so either Nth or Sth (Bangkok or Chiang Mai), easy as 👍 – at Phichit, Thailand

The fare from Rangsit to Hua Lamphong station is B6 on an old train. The equivalent journey by Red Line and MRT is more than B100.
Many complain about Thailand’s beaten-up old trains, but Thailand railways provide cheap (or free) travel for Thai people, especially between the provinces and Bangkok. Cheaper than long distance busses too.

A #Thailand train stops just outside Hua Lamphong station to pick up SRT (railway company) employees waiting beside the track.
Guess it must be a perk of the job.

Nice clean #Thailand sleeper train. This is how they look before the beds are made up.
And here you see the young lady making up the beds.
I prefer this older sleeper to the newer China sleeper… the beds are bigger and they travel slower, so more comfortable.

We're taking the train to Baan Grood for a few days.
I really like Apiwat Central Station. OK, it doesn't have the character and quirkiness of Hualampong, but sometimes all you want to do is find a seat, grab a coffee and some snacks, and then go to the correct platform and get on the correct train. Apiwat is better for all of those things than Hualampong ever was.
