Hemkund Sahib is a remarkable place, and its story is worth knowing.
At nearly 15,200 feet in the Garhwal Himalayas, beside a glacial lake surrounded by seven snow covered peaks, stands one of the highest Sikh shrines in the world.
Its significance comes from the Bachittar Natak, part of the Dasam Granth, in which Guru Gobind Singh Ji speaks of meditating in a previous life at Hemkunt Parbat, Sapt Sring.
The story of how the present day shrine came to be is equally fascinating. Pandit Tara Singh Narotam had traced its geographical location back in 1884. Later, the writings of Bhai Vir Singh inspired Sant Sohan Singh to search for the sacred site. He identified the present location in the 1930s and the first small Gurudwara was built in 1935.
There is also a Lakshman temple beside the lake, reflecting the Hindu belief that Lakshman meditated here.
I find this particularly fascinating about our Himalayas. These mountains have been a source of spiritual inspiration for centuries. Hindu temples, Sikh Gurudwaras, Buddhist monasteries and Jain pilgrimage sites all find their place in this extraordinary landscape.
Different faiths, different traditions and different ways of seeking the divine, yet all finding something sacred in these same mountains.
I have been to Hemkund Sahib just once. The trek is steep and treacherous in parts, and the altitude makes you respect every step. I would love to go again. Perhaps some of my Sikh friends will take me along on their next pilgrimage.

Hi @MichelleRempel. As you likely know, this was testimony from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, with 103,000 small businesses as members.
The average CFIB member has 5-25 employees and pays us a membership fee of a few hundred dollars per year. And while most are indeed incorporated, your post is quite misleading.
Corporations looking for more temporary foriegn workers can afford to hire lobbyists to advocate on their behalf at Parliamentary Committees.
Unemployed youth can't.
Glad to see Conservatives like @grantjacksonMP fight on their behalf. ⬇️

The magatards dragged me for this comment for weeks, but sadly: it’s true.
I love this country—and the best thing an executive at a social network can do is communicate when attempts are made to manipulate public discourse.

JD Vance, you just described Bo French.
This is a man who looked at American students celebrating a football victory and declared them foreigners displacing Americans purely based on the color of their skin.
MOST of those students were American citizens.
But that was hardly an isolated incident.
He has called for deporting 100 MILLION people( referring to Hispanic Americans) , advocated deporting Native Americans and openly framed the political struggle as “white vs everyone else.”
This is CLEARLY not a disagreement over immigration policy. This is a pattern of questioning who belongs in America based on race, ethnicity, and religion.
And here's the extraordinary part:
Bo French is STILL the Republican nominee for statewide office in Texas, endorsed by the state's Republican party.
Senator John Cornyn had the courage to publicly condemn him.
Yet I have not heard you or Ken Paxton direct a single word of condemnation toward French.
So, Mr. Vice President, does that standard apply to Bo French, or does it stop at the Republican Party's ballot?

Great piece by @MLInstitute.
One of the biggest disappointments of the Carney government so far is its failure to address Canada's punishing, uncompetitive, and insanely complex tax system.

68% of Patients using medical cannabis reported fewer seizures!
Among those also taking other medicines, about 76% were still on at least one regular anti-seizure drug.
Overall, patients felt medical cannabis was helpful, but many said it was not very affordable.
Many chose products that included THC, not pure CBD.

The Trump administration believes that the US is so large, so wealthy, and so powerful, that everyone else must eventually accommodate whatever they demand, no matter how outlandish.
They are mistaken.
In @Macleans magazine, I laid out why Trump’s tariff war will prove to be a catastrophic act of self-harm, and why Canada is better placed to endure the struggle.
I am grateful to @SorayaElhouni and Jes Mason for kneading my contribution into the magazine’s distinctive style.

Asian-Americans in Harvard’s Incoming Class More Than Double, to 43.2 Percent
Newly released data on the Harvard College class of 2030 say the class is 43.2 percent Asian-American, a record high and more than double the level when Students for Fair Admissions first sued Harvard alleging racial discrimination in admissions.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2023 that Harvard was unlawfully using race as a factor in admissions. Since then, the numbers of Hispanic and black students in the incoming Harvard classes have dipped, while the numbers of Asian-Americans have soared.
