2026 eh! What a time to be alive🫠

Wow. Interesting that one of my similarly unhinged MSps was also looking to stand for Rector here. Let's hope this a sign of decency returning to St Andrews and other universities follow this example.
But criticizing the handling of rape gangs by the authorities is just racism, some feminists say 🤷♀️
Brother of Rotherham grooming gang member accused of raping a 12 year old girl blames the girls and social services for what his brother did.
Check his hard drive. They are doing it again, because you didn't hang them last time.
What an absolute idiot. “Is these young girls… with their mini skirts… it’s their fault….” This argument is supported by Zakir Naik.
That's exactly how they think though. It's actually a crime in certain like-minded countries for women to dress immodestly.
Not before time.
A clear statement from @RapeCrisisEandW
- Every adult and child who has experienced sexual violence deserves access to to support
- The Rape Crisis National Service Standards recognise the benefit of women only services and spaces
- RCEW Centres MUST provide women-only spaces and services
- This does not mean that they cannot *also* provide services (or referral) for male survivors including trans-identifying men.

The danger and nuisance of cyclists ignoring the rules on Oxford Street is akin to that felt by blind people who are expected to hope for the best as they cross a cycle lane to catch their bus. Imagine if you couldn’t even see these morons. standard.co.uk/news/london/m…

I’m hoping the Oxford St situation might bring to a head the need to get a grip on London cyclist behaviour. Red light observance is about 25%. As a pedestrian, I am far more nervous crossing a cycle lane than a road.

One thing that strikes me, having spent more time with elderly people in recent years, is how much has gone into adding banks of scooters and bikes to pick up on the street, but wheelchairs to borrow when out with someone who can walk, but not far, hasn’t become a thing.
It's all very tiring.
The Woman of the Day is the Anglo-Saxon noblewoman Godgifu of West Mercia, the only woman to remain a landholder in Britain after those robbing Normans swept in and stole everything that wasn’t nailed down (and quite a few things that were).
Of course you’ve heard of her. You’ve heard of the Godiva Procession which was instituted in 1678 by Coventry Fair to commemorate the legendary ride by the Lady.
Taking pity on the people of Coventry suffering grievously under her husband's oppressive taxation, she called his bluff that he would repeal the taxes if she would strip naked and ride through the streets of the town, clothed only in her long hair. She only agreed on the condition that everyone stayed indoors and shut their windows, but a tailor known ever afterwards as Peeping Tom disobeyed and was struck blind. Allegedly.
It was all bunkum. Absolute bunkum.
Lady Godiva’s real name was Godgifu. She married Leofric, Earl of Mercia, but both she and her husband were major philanthropists and among the most munificent of the Anglo-Saxon nobility until the Norman Conquest in 1066 (and those robbing Normans came along, etc).
In Anglo-Saxon times, in laws dated around 1008 AD, women enjoyed full property rights, from peasant to nobility. They could own land, farms, houses. Upon marriage, a husband was legally required to give his wife a Morgengifu (Morning Gift): land, money, or goods, which remained her independent property that she could sell, give away, or manage as she chose. Women wrote their own wills and left property to whomever they chose including children, servants, or religious institutions, and they didn’t need their husband's permission.
All that stopped after 1066. The new feudal system tied land ownership to military service, something women were barred from providing. Women became the chattels (property) of their husbands if they were married, or their fathers if they were not, a legal state known as coverture. Still, I’m sure the Normans thought they were being progressive and inclusive, two words I’ve come to loathe. But I digress.
Godgifu survived the death of her husband and was mentioned in the Domesday Book, one of the few Anglo-Saxons and the only woman to remain a major landholder after the Conquest.
Godgifu certainly would have ridden a horse but not in protest and certainly not minus her clothes. Still, the idea of it proved quite a crowd pleaser at Coventry Fair in 1678, even though the first fake Lady Godiva was actually a lad. Yes, I know. Some things just don’t change.
In the intervening years, the myth was spiced up by the Puritans to prove a moral point but dampened down by other Protestants to make it fit for delicate ears. Never forget: the objectification of women is eternal, along with its fraternal twin, misogyny. The two generally go hand in hand.
Despite several attempts to shut down the procession — in 1845, the Mayor got fed up with the crowds jostling to get a better view of her, expostulating, “It’s a disgrace”, and in 1854, the Bishop of Worcester protested against “a Birmingham whore being paraded through the streets as Lady Godiva” — it continued as a annual event until the 1960s.
Godgifu’s date of birth is unknown but she died in her mid-fifties in 1067 after the Norman Conquest of 1066. The Domesday Book of 1086 notes that the lands formerly held by her had passed to others. Men of course. Chattels are property, and property cannot own property.
Married women finally achieved independent taxation in their own right in 1990. Prior to that, their husbands were responsible for paying tax on their income unless she obtained his signature and consent to claim her own single person's allowance and pay tax on her own earnings. Her unearned income — such as investment or savings interest — still legally belonged to him.
And of course, the "marital rape exemption" — the legal assumption that a wife could not withhold sexual consent from her husband under the marriage contract — was not formally abolished in English law until 1991.
935 years. It only took 935 years in this country to demolish the legal status and definition of Woman as Property, and despite the Supreme Court ruling, we still find ourselves having to dismantle the definition of Woman as a feeling — with political parties, Civil Service departments, with trade unions, charities, retailers, and with sporting bodies.
I know many of us are tired of fighting the same old battles but keep going, sisters.
“We woman suffragists have a great mission — the greatest mission the world has ever known. It is to free half the human race, and through that freedom to save the rest.”

Disgraced former Labour politician to be a core participant in the Government’s National Inquiry into Grooming Gangs.
I hope she will be challenged over her wrongdoing towards Rotherham survivors, including her attempts to silence them and me by reporting us to the police and instructing solicitors to take me to court.
She failed miserably. Truth always comes out in the end.

I spend a lot of time, perhaps too much, thinking about the lost architecture of Britain.
Crystal Palace was the most tremendous loss of the modern era, yet it's rare to see any pictures of it. When built in 1851, it was the largest building in the world and three times the size of St Paul's Cathedral.
What's more, that immense ironwork and 293,000 glass panels went up in just 190 days for the World's Fair. Almost 1 million square feet of glass. An extraordinary feat.
It was razed in a fire in the 1930s and never rebuilt.
What an absolute disgrace.
Sentencing Sheikh to 20 months’ imprisonment, Judge Smith said he would serve a proportion of that – around a third – before being eligible for release and observed: “It might be a short period of time that you are in prison.”
So he sexually assaults a women in residential care - someone who appears to have a learning disability into as she was assessed as lacking capacity to engage with the court process - and he only gets to serve a THIRD of a 20 month prison sentence.
Once again proving that the “justice” system and this bloody government view sexual offences as less serious and less worthy of punishment than a social media post or throwing a bloody plastic bottle at police.
I am so sick and tired of the moral bankruptcy in this country.

It's quite dusty in here suddenly 🥲❤️🐑
The strip along the base of Brian's wall went rank in September, for the first time in six years, and that is how he knew to go and look for a sheep he does not own.
It took him a week to see it. Every morning the fescue along that wall is clipped short by a Texel ewe who comes through from the other side and grazes the base and goes home, and has done since she was five months old, and a man stops seeing a thing that is always there. Then one morning the grass was four inches long against the stone, and the damp was in it, and he stood at the gap and said her name out loud, which he does not do.
She had not come through on the Monday. Or the Tuesday. He had not noticed, and he is a man who logs her in a column.
Doris was on the far side of her own hill, in a hollow under the crag, on her chest with one hind leg stuck out, and she had been there two days. Foot abscess. A sheep on three legs on a fell cannot keep her heft, cannot get to the wall, cannot do anything but lie up and wait, and a ewe who lies up for long enough on a wet hill in September does not get up.
She had not called. A sheep in trouble often does not. She had put herself in the one dry hollow on that side of the crag and had waited, with the composure of an animal who has never in her life asked anybody for anything, for whatever came.
What came was Brian, who had climbed a hill that is not his, for a ewe that is not his, because a strip of grass that is not his had grown an inch.
He got her onto the quad across his knees, seventy kilos of wet Texel, which is not what a quad is for, and brought her down the long way round, and the farmer met him at the bottom gate having been rung from the top, and the two of them opened the foot in the yard and let it drain, and she stood for it the way she stands for weather.
The farmer asked how he had known.
Brian said the wall told him.
She was back through the gap on the Saturday. Three legs and a bit, slow, and she went to the base of the wall and put her head down and started on the rank grass as though she had been away on business, and Brian stood at the gate with his hands in his pockets and watched her clip his wall, and did not log it.
He has rebuilt that twelve feet nineteen times to keep her out. He says he knows the stones by name.
He says he would have carried her through them.
