People don't understand how much VH1 contributed to cultural literacy. Yeah you were high on the couch watching hours of Pop Up video & I Love The (pick a decade) but you were also getting an education in cultural history. We could use more of that, now, & less tik tok slop.
"Pop-Up Video" debuted on VH1 on this date in 1996, adding a whole new layer to watching music videos. BITE-SIZED FACT | The show filled music videos with pop-up bubbles revealing trivia, behind-the-scenes stories and amusing facts about the artists and songs.

6 years ago, we had a wave of rioting that shut down major cities across the country and cost about 2 billion dollars in property damage. The decade has been defined by increased policing, surveillance and Propaganda campaigns in response in response to the George Floyd uprising.
The U.S. has one of the least revolutionary populations in the world with a huge chunk of the country openly hostile to socialism. If you don’t want to accept social democrats or even disaffected liberals in the DSA tent that’s fine but the organization will have a hard ceiling.

I feel like Jared Kushner being at the center of the plot that ultimately led to an American journalist being dismembered via bone saw while he was still alive should be a much bigger deal than our billionaire owned news media is making of it.

One of the more effective ideological tricks has been convincing ppl to think of themselves as taxpayers first and beneficiaries of public investment second. It makes the money taken from your paycheck visible, and obscures the collective resources that make earning even possible
I will never understand how so many of y'all were hoodwinked into believing the government should not use the money you pay in taxes to create a social safety net that benefits you, fund public healthcare, lower housing costs, and make daily life more affordable.

Because pretty much every social activity has priced itself out of being worth the cost, even if we can afford it.
Why do Millennials love staying at home so much?

BREAKING: Pentagon prepares every major US military base to operate for at least 90 days without outside electricity, fuel, water or supplies, anticipating a major war that could cripple power grids, break global supply chains and threaten critical infrastructure on US soil, per Fox News. The plans include portable nuclear reactors, large-scale battery storage and microgrids able to disconnect installations from the civilian electrical grid entirely.

This mindset stems from those who can’t imagine building mass movements that start off by championing the working class‘s demands and then develops them further. These people think they gotta lie to people because they don‘t understand the didactic process of revolution.
You will never achieve socialism by lying to everyone and hoping they accept it upon realizing they’ve been bamboozled

yimby policy solutions appeal to the same part of the brain that watches a lifehack video and can't help but go around the rest of the day telling everyone how if they just do this one thing...

the FHA backed fixed-rate 30-year mortgage is rent control for homeowners.. yimby's who talk incessantly of the tyranny of single family home zoning in the wealthy suburbs never mention it as a market distortion that should be abolished

Tell them to hire a cleaning service like every other home owner does. Your guests are not your employees. Y’all tried to destroy the hospitality industry not realizing you gotta do the hospitality part to compete with them. Now you got a second mortgage and no guests. 😭

Late stage capitalism is when people who bought up property and fucked the housing market go on strike because they can’t force their guests to do domestic labor

Treating politics like a fandom instead of a struggle you participate in on the ground is the reason shit ain't changing. Reducing that struggle to drama between streamers or politicians is more effective than any psyop the CIA could concoct.

A lot of it was stripped away because white Boomers didn’t want Black people to benefit from those safety nets and systems. There’s a reason the credit score didn’t exist until 1980.
Boomers literally had unions, affordable college, and pensions….. they then stripped those away from the next generation while gaslighting them about avocado toast and latte.

again... I say yimby is proto-fascist - its internal logics justify displacing low-income communities (of color) in the name of a greater good and mainstream the idea that if we mass deport immigrants it will improve affordabilty.. this is nasty work and it has infected the left
