Microsoft has quietly deleted multiple marketing documents where it pushed 32GB RAM for Windows 11 PCs.
For the past year, Microsoft kept pushing the idea that 16GB was the baseline and 32GB was the “no-worries” zone. Then RAM prices exploded, PC shipments declined, Windows 10 refused to die, and Microsoft started selling new 8GB Surface devices that don’t even meet its own Copilot+ PC memory standard.
Now those 32GB recommendations are gone.
Microsoft is adjusting to the reality that Windows 11 has become too heavy for the PCs many people actually buy.
8GB should not feel painful for basic browsing, schoolwork, Office, streaming, and productivity, but Windows 11 made it feel that way because the OS is full of WebView2, React Native, background services, widgets, Copilot, and web-wrapper apps pretending to be native.
Microsoft’s new plan is finally the right one: reduce Windows 11’s memory footprint for 8GB PCs and above.
If Microsoft wants to keep selling 8GB Surface devices, it has to make Windows 11 lighter.
Not everyone can buy 32GB RAM because Windows got lazy: windowslatest.com/2026/08/05…

Ok, here’s my corporate greed call-out of the day.
I was dispatched today for a no-cool call. The indoor unit was running, but the outdoor unit wasn’t.
The system was a 10-year-old Bryant Evolution high-end variable-capacity inverter system. After running the factory diagnostics, I found Code 77, indicating the inverter board was detecting excessive compressor startup current.
Following the manufacturer’s diagnostic procedure, I disconnected the compressor leads to determine whether the fault was in the compressor or the inverter board. The results confirmed the inverter board had failed. The system is only 8 months out of warranty.
At that point, I started preparing myself to tell the customer the repair would probably be around $1,500–$1,900. I figured the board would cost somewhere in the $800–$1,000 range. After all, it’s just a printed circuit board.
Before giving the estimate, I called Carrier Enterprise for pricing.
$8,900.
Not for the entire outdoor unit.
Not for a complete system.
Just the inverter board.
That’s not a typo. $8,900.
In my opinion, this is the definition of engineered obsolescence. There is no reasonable justification for a replacement circuit board on a 10-year-old residential HVAC system to cost nearly nine thousand dollars. At that price, you’re essentially forcing the homeowner to replace the entire system instead of repairing it.
This is exactly why I’ll never sell Carrier equipment. They make decent equipment, but pricing replacement parts like this turns a repairable system into a disposable one. Homeowners deserve better than that.
Carrier Carrier Enterprise or anyone that’s sells this shit, care to elaborate why this board is so expensive?

She is right, discs aren’t they key differentiator between PS and PC
PCs offer
✅ Free multiplayer
✅ Options to buy games anywhere
✅ DRM-free options (e.g. GOG)
✅ Download and keep purchases even if removed from the store, unlike what Sony did with over 500 digital movies
✅ Game preservation
✅ Competitive pricing
✅ Modding
✅ System upgrades and hardware customizations
✅ Much better ongoing support
✅ Biggest library of games
✅ Play at the best possible specs
✅ Emulation
✅ Running local LLMs
✅ Extremely long backward compatibility
✅ Runs multiple operating systems
✅ Runs Office, CAD, 3D slicers, and productivity software
✅ Full software development and coding environments
✅ Video editing, 3D modeling, and content creation suites
✅ Virtual machines and containers
✅ Hardware overclocking and fine-tuning
✅ Multi-monitor, ultrawide, and high-refresh setups
✅ Open-source software ecosystem
✅ Web servers, self-hosting, and local networking
✅ Advanced file management, torrents, and data recovery
✅ Custom peripherals, macros, and input devices
✅ AI image and video generation tools
✅ Scientific computing and data analysis
PCs do everything. The only thing PS actually had going for it was price and discs, and it is moving ahead with neither.

To those saying 'but the UN chief has to talk to everyone to bring peace'.
No. Guterres went to Ukraine and Russia before to talk about peace (Kyiv was bombed that day, he didn't mention it). He didn't have to go to the BRICS summit in Russia. He chose to. And this is telling
