Breaking News: Nvidia opened an investigation into Jensen Huang, its CEO, after he acknowledged to the company’s board that he had been intimate with a business executive who U.S. intelligence determined to be a Chinese spy. nyti.ms/3ViPMAt

The reason I harp on this relative performance stuff is that we have top political consultants and major journalists telling the world that we need to copy one specific candidate to learn how to persuade young men, but young men swung more in AK, IA, KS, MS, NC, OH, and TX!

Various disagreements about oversight priorities for Democrats but the relationship between Trump, NVIDIA, export controls, and Chinese honeypots seems like it really hits all the notes.

Both @SenTinaSmith and @SenAmyKlobuchar have been clean energy champions while in the Senate.
As both prepare for their futures outside DC, they have the opportunity to add another meaningful plank to their legacy on climate and affordability.
Let’s get this done! 🔋⚡️☢️
Today, we're proud to formally endorse @SenatorHeinrich and @SenWhitehouse's Bipartisan American Affordability & Jobs Act (BAAJA).
As part of our endorsement, CNL has sent a letter signed by 45 of our United States chapters to the US Senate in support of the legislation.

We were proud to sign onto this letter supporting the BAAJA permitting reform initiative. We can't wait any longer to build the infrastructure that we need to deliver the affordability agenda we just won on.

"No new AI regulations are needed" was "literally the most unpopular position [David Shor has] ever seen a mainstream politician endorse" !!!
The GOP had a massive money advantage. I asked
@davidshor why it bought the party so few votes.
His answer: Campaign donations are helpful. But the freedom to ignore rich weirdos' preferences is priceless.

Totally fine of course if Jeffries is negotiating in good faith and intends on passing a bill that House Democrats get to lend their input to.
Not great if he is trying to poison the Senate effort by going public with his grievances – there is no chance Democrats pass permitting reform in 2027 and get it signed by Trump.
It is now or never, and we can't wait.

This report and reactions from people I trust (like Jake) are making me physically ill. As far as I can tell, Anthropic's central plan is to continue this acceleration of AI capabilities until we're getting decades of AI capabilities growth in a year. Given our very limited ability to understand or control AI systems, this would be extremely reckless and completely unacceptable, and it should be the single top priority of civil society and the US government to stop them and other companies from doing this.
I've always had substantially longer timelines than my friends at Anthropic — I've been concerned that they're in an echo chamber and believing the hype about their own models too much, and that they're underestimating bottlenecks and unknown unknowns. And there have definitely been specific occasions when they have overstated how much uplift they were getting from their models. Nonetheless, if METR is correct here (and I think they are among the most trustworthy sources on this topic), then my Anthropic friends have been much more right about timelines than me.
This report is also some evidence that a software-only singularity is plausible. I now think that we are more than 50% likely to have full blown superintelligence in the next 18 months, absent a slowdown. I need to call my family.

We met with Amish for the first time in 2022.
He was one of our first endorsements this cycle and checks we cut: he’s gonna be an excellent congressman, and we’re excited to work with him next year.
Projection:
Democrat Amish Shah is the Projected Winner in the #AZ01 election. He will defeat Republican Jay Feely.
