In 1772 an eye operation left Leonhard Euler almost completely blind.
He could still do the mathematics. He could not read it or write it.
So he needed someone. Not a copyist — someone who could follow him.
Euler turned to his old friend Daniel Bernoulli in Basel. Bernoulli knew exactly who to send.
Nicolas Fuss arrived in St Petersburg in May 1773. He was eighteen.
He stayed for the rest of his life.
At Euler’s side he helped push more than 250 papers into print. Not transcription — he developed the ideas, built the tables, worked the examples.
Then Euler died in 1783, and the assistant became the scientist. Academician that same year. Professor of mathematics. And from 1800 until his own death in 1826, permanent secretary of the Imperial Academy of Sciences.
There is a theorem named after him. A sequence of numbers too.
And late in life he did one more thing.
He took the algebra he had learned at Euler’s elbow and built it into a course for the schools of the Russian Empire. Three volumes. Algebra. Then geometry. Then the application of algebra to geometry — trigonometry, conic sections, and the foundations of the calculus.
That trilogy is where Russian school mathematics begins. Kiselev comes after it. The Soviet school comes after Kiselev.
Part I — Algebra, 1820. Four divisions, 59 chapters, 570 sections. From what it means for a letter to stand for a quantity, all the way to the irreducible case of the cubic.
Two hundred years. No English edition. Not once.
Until today.

Claude gonna start snitching on Tuesday.
Anthropic just emailed customers. Starting Nov 3, text carries an invisible watermark.
You can't see it. It survives copy and paste, and it can survive some editing.
Only regulators, journalists, fact-checkers and researchers can check for it right now.
It doesn't say who you are. It says Claude touched the words. Even a quick proofread counts.
If your brand voice runs on Claude, write like someone might check. Because now someone can.

LLMs accumulate a lot of declarative knowledge.
That's how they can answer a large number of questions.
That's also why they require so many parameters and hence so much memory.
But one can replace the accumulation of knowledge by *understanding*
That what JEPA world models do.
That's one reason they can be useful with considerably less memory and training data than LLMs.
This paper merely shows that the underlying similarity structure of the data, whether text or image (e.g. co-occurence of words in text or objects in images) uniquely determines the shape of the representation point cloud, when the encoder is trained trained with a common anti-collapse criterion like SIGReg or VCReg (not by reconstruction).

🚨🇺🇸🇨🇦 Trump just announced a breakthrough on TARIFFS with Canada:
“All those tariffs will be done.
There will be NO tariffs.”
Trump claimed U.S. agricultural exports had faced tariffs as high as 400% and said eliminating them was part of the deal.
The announcement follows weeks of trade negotiations between Washington and Ottawa.
But the full terms, implementation timeline and Canada's confirmation of the agreement remain unclear.
If finalized, the deal could significantly change trade conditions for affected American agricultural exporters.
