Democrat Kristian Carranza cruised to victory Tuesday over Republican Jorge Borrego in the District 118 election. ⠀ Carranza will be the first woman and Latina to represent the area, which spans San Antonio’s South Side, in the Texas Legislature. bit.ly/4fcdZ22

I wish my mother could have seen Georgia last night. When she called on women to become the soul of the nation, she was asking us to help shape what this country stands for and how it treats its people. She spent her life putting those words into action. I thought of her as Keisha Lance Bottoms became the first Black woman elected governor of a U.S. state. I thought, too, of the Black women who went door to door, registered voters and organized for years. Many did not live to see what they helped make possible. Congratulations, Governor-elect Bottoms. Congratulations also to Penny Brown Reynolds, Georgia’s next secretary of state, and Tanya Miller, our next attorney general. I’m thinking of the Black girls who will grow up seeing women who look like them lead Georgia. I pray they see what my mother saw in leadership: the power to make life better for others and the responsibility to use it. #CorettaScottKing #KeishaLanceBottoms #PennyBrownReynolds #TanyaMiller #GeorgiaHistory

So proud of you, @kristianfortx!!!!! So happy for all of us!!!
Tonight, we made history! The people of House District 118 have spoken, and I am honored to announce that we have won this race! I will be the first woman and first Latina to represent HD-118 in the Texas House. I grew up on the Southside. This community raised me, and now I have the honor of representing it in Austin. This victory belongs to all of us. Thank you, HD-118! Let’s get to work!

I’ve had this conversation out loud too many times, so decided to ✍️ The idea of a big wave this November is making me nervous! Historically, losing has forced Democrats to wake up, but winning has given us permission to hit snooze -- Republicans do not operate this way. Democrats' brutal loss in 2024 splashed water on our collective faces, but the work is. not. done. And if the road from 2024 to winning back the White House in 2028 is the full game, 2026 is just halftime 🏈⚽️🏀 Midterm voters skew older than presidential ones, and a lot of who will decide 2028 will sit this one out. A good night in 2 weeks tells us basically nothing about winning the White House in 2 years. Read the full piece in @readchaoticera (thanks @kylewilsontharp!) chaoticera.news/p/opinion-th…

For the price of a single Hellfire missile, you can send an American through a public four-year college. Yet we keep making the wrong choice.

Forstag on the transgender debate: “[My mom] taught me that government has no business sticking its nose into our personal lives, whether that's a gun safe, whether that's a doctor's office. I don't want a politician anywhere near it. So, let's leave sports to the leagues that actually run them. Let's let people live their lives with dignity and make their own private personal decisions and let's keep politics the heck out of it. Because what I see with that kind of anger and rhetoric…they're singing and dancing while they pick our pockets.”

Most on this site probably haven't heard of Mark Gersh, but I worked for him for 18 years, starting as a soph in college. He was a pioneer in political data/targeting, and that industry wouldn't be where it is without the foundation he built. He passed away today. Rest in peace.

The death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person. The common good can be safeguarded and the requirements of justice can be met without recourse to capital punishment: effective systems of detention have been developed that protect citizens while at the same time do not completely deprive those who are guilty of the possibility of redemption. #NoDeathPenalty

Pete Hegseth is clearly coked out and thinks this is a video game. Democracy in this country has fallen. They are returning us back to the worst chapters of our history. Nidal Hasan should be held accountable, but his execution should not be entertainment at watch parties.

if you think allowing other people to marry the person of their choice curtails your "religious liberty," you're a religious fanatic who does not belong in government.
Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito says in a new book that he believes the court's landmark decision extending marriage rights to same-sex couples was "perhaps the decisive point in our nation's turn against religious liberty." Read more: abcnews.link/M860KYr

I can’t help think of the fact that Katie Porter just went from frontrunner to nonstarter in the CA gov race for exactly this kind of behavior. The double standard for white men in leadership is appalling, and so are his actions. Ken Martin should resign.

Wild that people attack @FrancescaHongWI for COVID credit card debt as a small biz owner, while GOP folks like Robin Vos had PPP loans forgiven & got free tax payers money. Pandemic was tough for biz owners, can’t have it both ways when it’s politically convenient.
