Canada in a nutshell. Thanks to the ever eloquent @alexbrown17
It’s morning in Canada.
A mother steps on a government needle at her child’s playground.
15 Conestoga 'students' in a dimly lit Brampton basement wait their turn to use a single bathroom.
A little old lady on a fixed pension in the sticks opens the mail to a $300 carbon levy for heating her home.
A young man on a subway spots a violent schizophrenic hassling disassociated commuters. There are no police to be found. He wonders if he steps in, will he be shamed? Will he go viral?
A commuting family of four, on a debilitating variable rate mortgage for their 900 sq. foot semi that cost $950,000, wakes up to another car stolen.
A janitor at a Hebrew school scrubs "from the river to the sea" off the front windows for the third time this semester.
Mark Gerretsen hits send on a tweet that totally owns Pierre for using a similar adjective as Donald Trump. His constituents don’t see it, because they’re living real lives. A few of them wait 16 hours in the hospital for supposedly urgent care.
The rest of the Liberals, and many 'Red Tory’s,' continue to respond with the same old 2015 playbook, failing to realize the tipping point has already happened. There’s no going back to luxury beliefs when it’s this bad.
It’s actually broken.
Destroy them accordingly. Take back what you can.

The Premier is absolutely right.

The Bank of Canada has been a complete failure. Their one job is to control inflation, and inflation has been up every month. It’s just going up less than it was.
They should lower interest rates and give people back more of their money. Let them shop and support businesses. Canadians can’t afford rate hikes right now. And, it will hold back growth and cost construction jobs.

🇨🇦 The biggest financial illusion in Canada is that the middle class is still getting ahead.
You earn more than your parents did.
But your mortgage takes a bigger bite.
Your groceries cost more.
Your insurance keeps climbing.
Your property taxes go up.
Your retirement requires more savings.
And the government keeps telling you the economy is resilient.
Resilient for whom?
A generation ago, a decent job could provide a home, a family vacation, retirement savings and financial security.
Today, two professional incomes can struggle to deliver the same lifestyle.
Here’s what Ottawa needs to understand:
A rising salary means nothing if the cost of participating in society rises even faster.
Canadians don’t need another government program explaining affordability.
They need an economy where working hard actually gets them somewhere.
We didn’t become a wealthy country by making basic necessities feel like luxury purchases.

Bank of Canada raises interest rates by 0.25% to 2.5%.
Complete stupidity.
Bank of Canada's rate has no impact on energy prices. Zero.
And if you remove the impact of gasoline prices from Canada's CPI by every measure they trending lower and with the Bank's range.
While Canadians are losing jobs, record unaffordability and surge in insolvencies, the Bank of Canada decided to make Canadians' lives more expensive 🤦🏼♂️
Doomed
Nearly 75% of Canadians think Mark Carney is on the right track seeking closer ties with Europe, new polling shows. toronto.citynews.ca/2026/10/…

I'm not an economist so can someone please explain to me how raising interest rates due to rising prices caused by the Iran war will do anything but kick Canadians when they're down?
I understand the principle when our economy is growing too fast causing inflation, but this just doesn't make sense to me.

Perhaps the reason so many people are holding on to political “activist” identities is that they are afraid to go back to just being them. Just a plain person. @ClubRandom_ @billmaher

Shocking - New Liberal MAID bill would allow MAID/euthanasia to be administered in certain circumstances WITHOUT informing the patient of what is about to happen.
If someone signs an advance request, the practitioner would NOT be required to even talk to them before ending their life.

Guaranteed, Canadians, will NOT be pleased to see an interest rate hike from the Bank of Canada.
They elected Mark Carney because he had experience as the BoC governor.
They expected better.
If this continues, Carney’s popularity will plummet.
Bank of Canada now expected to hike key rate as it faces 'pivotal decision' ctvnews.ca/business/article/…

I think a lot of people are getting tired of self-described “progressives” policing what we can and can’t say, and when we can or can’t say it.
I could be wrong, but I suspect I’m not.
The end.
Replying to @harleyf
Harley, @BenMulroney has spent the morning personally explaining why his land acknowledgement was sincere and historically justified.
You've decided it was satire.
Perhaps you should let @BenMulroney know. He seems to have missed his own joke. 😭

One reason young Canadians are becoming our most politically conservative cohort (and they are; look it up) is because they've all had to interact with an Emily Lowan.

If Mark Carney is so popular how did Conservatives win in B.C.? They haven’t won in 98 years. And it’s a supermajority at that.
And Conservatives also just won 19 seats in the Quebec election. They haven’t won a seat in that legislature in 91 years.
Liberal supporters have convinced themselves that the ridings of the 5 CPC floor-crossers are now Liberal strongholds.
They have everything to lose during the next election and they are lashing out right now on this platform.

For a number of years I was Chair of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada’s Orthopaedic Test Committee. During that period I also chaired the UBC program for training young orthopaedic surgeons in BC. Over a 4 year period only 5 of 16 successful graduates remained in BC because they were unable to get hospital positions and OR time.

I remember when @BlueRodeo wrote an anti-Harper song because under his tenure food bank usage went from 750,000 to 850,000.
Since the current brand of liberals took power it has gone up by 1.4 million MORE per month to 2.3 million.
Where is your song @BlueRodeo ?

JK Rowling has just written a beautiful essay that I will link to below. This paragraph holds no punches:
“Large numbers of women who’ve never been poor, who’ve never worked the kind of job where they’d be vulnerable to predatory men and who’ve never needed a r*pe crisis centre have spent the last few years vilifying members of their own sex for fighting to retain their hard-won rights and single-sex spaces, in ways that have shocked and disgusted me. I freely confess that I feel an extra layer of abhorrence for any woman who claims to be a feminist while doing it.”
