I was panicking in 2017 and Kenyans brushed it off. When a whole ministry of education, with professors in it, tells you that children don't need knowledge, is that not something to panic about? But Kenyans agreed with them. What the child is being taught is skills without knowledge. That's what it means. I even broke down the meaning of competency, which is detached tasks that mean nothing together. So let the kid say goon, cook, whatoover, and they have a reading "skill," but they still can't read. I tried to tell Kenyans that, they told me that knowledge=exams, and they don't want exams. So they want skills without knowledge. But I've now understood that Kenyans have conceded to being stupid. To be stupid, from Bonhoeffer's definition, is not about intellect. It's sociological phenomenon where power convinces people to give up their right to think and to listen to their own conscience. Facts won't change their minds. That's why I stopped talking of the details of the curriculum. There's no point. Kenyans have decided that they're not listening. Irris warrirris. #CBCisheretostay
