it's a super trainable skill and the more you do it the better you get, streaming is great for practice; the main thing that seperates great speakers from not-so-great ones imo is consideration of the audience experience. (Great speakers are often thinking on a conscious or subconscious level about what they want the audience to feel / understand and how to create that connection with them)

I clicked on this without thinking, then heard three notes and realized that some things are not meant to be known and closed my computer
Around 1500, Hieronymus Bosch painted sheet music on a sinner's bare butt in hell. 500 years later, someone transcribed and performed it. Now you can hear the original butt song from hell.

"The unexamined carrot is not worth purchasing."
i am reconsidering life. i am at the supermarket. a woman is looking at carrots. for ages. im waiting. i think, “lets go. they are just carrots. there simply is not five minutes of information there”. but, maybe there is. maybe i am the dense one, blind to the depth of the carrot

I'm proud of this tweet because it is the only tweet ever made about men and women being different that also didn't piss anyone off
misogyny checkpoint: what’s the first tweet that shows up when you search “women” on your page ?

many people who have recovered from chronic illnesses have spoken about how the pivotal moment in their healing was choosing to believe it was possible in the first place
I’ve noticed a certain psychological disposition among chronically ill people who are absolutely convinced that nothing they do could ever improve their health. I think the same patterns of thinking that lead them to believe improvement is impossible are what prevent them from recognizing or pursuing opportunities to change their circumstances. Learned helplessness easily becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I'm just thinking out loud here, but do any of you have thoughts about whether there might be a sort of "hall of mirrors" thing that happens where people more and more stop engaging with source material directly and instead feed it to their preferred LLMs to figure out what to think about it? and in turn if this will cause people to start writing more for LLM's approval as a target audience / the meaningful metric of whether something is considered good or useful? what will intellectual work look like in a post-literate society?
I've been saying this SAME thing. When @Andrey4Mir talks about "digital orality," I think this is what comes *next.* Software as speech/content.

In his multi-page public case for why my invited talk should be canceled an activist wrote "What I hate the most about him is that he's reasonable and evidence-based, so people listen to him".
