I feel like some of yall are losing the plot… THE HISTORY OF FANFICTION IS PASSING STORIES BETWEEN FANS THE STAR TREK FANDOM, FOUNDERS OF FANFICTION, WOULD TYPE FICS ON THEIR LITTLE TYPEWRITERS, PHOTOCOPY THEM, AND PASS THEM AROUND AT CONS

this. i genuinely alarms me that there’s a very large amount of people participating in fandom these days who have never even heard of the fanfic dot net purges. we need to preserve fandom culture.

no hate to op but genuinely none of the people asking this question are old enough/knowledgable in fandom history enough to remember WHY fic drives exist. they’re literally created to avoid fic purges from decimating fundamental texts to the fandoms

we are MAYBE one (01) round of fandom discourse away from people claiming it's fundamentally unethical to read fanfiction without tipping the authors on cashapp. maybe

genuinely befuddled by the reactions I’m seeing re: ao3 fic file sharing. is there a fundamental disconnect from fandom history and a misunderstanding of what is actually occurring? credit is fully in tact in the dl file, it is not a tos violation to share them with others

then delete your account? lol it’s very strange that I’ve seen a select hand full react so oddly over a community’s perseverance of keeping an archive. No one is selling your fanfic. Chill.

hey so holy shit please don’t do this. if anything you are going to get the authors in question in trouble, because they are the ones who are in a copyright grey area and the last thing any fic author wants is for fucking GOOGLE to be scrutinising their work for “abusive content”
s (@comsandte) profile pictures@comsandte9h
For anyone asking how to report a Google Drive link containing fanworks shared without the authors' consent: open the file, click the three dots, select **Report abuse**, and follow the instructions. Authors have the right to protect their work. Don't just complain, report it.

“i can’t engage with this discourse anymore” that is until i see a suggestion that is so potentially harmful and dark-sided i can’t not say something to try and dissuade otherwise well-intentioned people from thinking that it’s okay
