"The budget also fails basic tests of transparency. It does not explain how the spring update, released almost a month after the 2025-26 fiscal year ended, got the deficit so wrong — $27.5-billion wrong — nor why the government, after concealing this information for months, assumes that the unexpectedly buoyant revenue that helped produce the surprise will continue. It mixes old and new announcements, making readers work needlessly hard to figure out what the budget actually changes. And it does not present clear numbers on the government’s biggest new commitment: defence."—Don Drummond and Bill Robson
Don Drummond and William Robson: We give the federal budget a ‘D’ ....With its bloated format, bad timing, fiscal indiscipline, lack of transparency and populist gimmicks, it falls far short of what Canadians deserve financialpost.com/opinion/fp…

Carney told Global News the 200k temporary-to-permanent pathway is sustainable and that asylum claims are down 70%, temporary foreign workers 60%, and students 80% Yet again, those percentages are selective. Full-year 2025 drops were smaller (~34%, ~47%, ~61%). The higher figures use partial windows against the 2024 peak The plan sets 380k permanent residents + 370k new temporary arrivals (~750k combined). The 200k pathway is extra and does not count against the 380k target — effective permanent residents can reach ~580k in 2027 Permanent resident targets of 380k remain well above the pre-2015 average of ~250–300k. The non-permanent resident stock still sits near 2.78 million after Statistics Canada’s September revision added ~240k people back into the count — about 6.7% of the population and above the stated under-5% goal The cuts in new temporary arrivals from the peak are real. Framing the steepest partial percentages as restored control, while locking in high combined intake and while the temporary stock remains elevated after data revisions, is not @MarkJCarney
Yet again the Parliamentary Press Gallery lets Carney repeat the immigration overstatements: "We have been having discussions with the province's first ministers around getting immigration first and foremost to the right levels." "...We've brought the numbers down. Foreign students down 80%, asylum seekers down 70%, temporary foreign workers down 60%." The paid press eats Carney's BS for brunch @markjcarney

Of course they do! "The Budget 2026 investment follows an additional $150 million the public broadcaster received in last year’s federal budget. CBC/Radio-Canada typically receives about 70% of its budget from the government, with the remaining 30% generated by advertising. It received a total of $1.46B from Ottawa for 2025-26"

Actual progress comes from hard-to-build technology. Which comes from competitive, creative, free-market capitalism. Which comes from one small, precarious area and then diffuses to the rest of the world. Snuff that out, and it’s global stagnation for an extremely long time.

This is CTV's @mikelecouteur trying his best to not sound like a professional idiot. Equating Harper and Carney on immigration Mike is like arguing that because I could lift 200 pounds at 20, that I should be able to lift 600 pounds at 60. That's weapons-grade stupidity.🤡

🚨 SILENCE: Austin Payne was a 15-year-old white boy from Albany, Georgia. His mom found him dead inside an abandoned apartment after tracking his phone there. He called her on Halloween night to say he had been SHOT and needed help. Police have charged three black teenagers, ages 15 and 16, and a 22-year-old black man, Detravion Parker, with MURDER. The national media has barely said a word. Imagine if the races were reversed. It would be wall-to-wall coverage for weeks, and we all know it. Austin deserves justice, and his name deserves to be said.

🇨🇦⛺️🤥🏘️Housing Minister Gregor Robertson is asked how he can succeed in ending homelessness in Canada, in 10 years, when he promised & failed to end homelessness in Vancouver, in 10 years, when he was Mayor. 🤥 Of course Gregor blames previous Federal & Provincial governments, for his past failures. Never accepting any blame at all for making a promise, he never delivered on. 📈 I lived in Vancouver while Gregor was Mayor. The homeless crisis only grew at that time. He was nicknamed Mayor Moonbeam back then by many of us & left the Mayoral office in disgrace.

It's weird that the U.S. cares more about terrorist financing in Canada than the RCMP or CSIS do. Strike that: I'm sure the RCMP and CSIS care. But Mark Carney and Gary Anandasangaree are more interested in ethnic voting blocs than public safety. home.treasury.gov/news/press…
