There are a lot of reasons to be wary about a Medicare for All plan: 1. The cost... people will point out that total healthcare spending is projected to go down, but it's not so simple to "move" the money that's spent in the private market today into government coffers to spend on M4A. It's logistically difficult but moreso it's politically difficult. People don't like taxes more than they don't like paying their employer for a benefit. There will also be people who pay more in this new tax than they paid on their old employer plan, they won't be happy either. 2. A main reason that overall costs would be projected to be lower is that Medicare has WAY lower reimbursement rates for providers. M4A basically represents a mass defunding of hospitals and providers. If you look at healthcare professions in other countries they are all paid way less. Big salary cuts for doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, x ray techs... you get the idea... is not going to be popular. But you're forcing hospitals to take massive revenue cuts with these reimbursement rates so what else is there to do, labor is their largest expense. 3. Complete government control of what is and isn't covered, how everything is administered, etc. It's Sarah Palin's "death panels" but real this time lol. Obviously we have a ton of people on government plans already, and government run healthcare is fine if it's run by competent people who want to see it succeed and know what they are doing. The problem is that our country has a political party hell bent on making public goods and services worse and now they're full of cranks and kooks like RFK. I would much rather a system with private insurers where I can shop around vs. being forced onto a government plan run by a nutjob. 4. Most people like their current insurance plan, most people are covered by insurance, and we don't need to do this massive disruption to the system to cover the people who are currently uninsured. We can expand the safety net, offer a public option, lower the age to buy into Medicare, etc. There are plenty of "boring" reforms that would accomplish the goal of universal healthcare, they're just not as flashy or sexy as Medicare for All so a lot of people don't care because it's not actually about healthcare for them, it's about politics.

The Boomer conservatives apologizing for this are so obnoxious. Old people also want zero property taxes. They basically want to contribute nothing at all to society and it’s eating a bunch of developed countries alive.
One reason young people want socialism so much is that they're jealous that older people have it and they don't.

Cenk Uygur running an anti-semitic ad that is a harmful distraction to Abdul's campaign in the final week while Obama does turn out rallies for him is a nice capstone to #THEDISCOURSE.
I mean, he doesn’t. This wasn’t his ad. Cenk Uygur is behind this ad, and he has the strategic mind of a lobotomized gerbil.

If you want friends (esp postpartum) you do have to put in effort and some of it will involve inconvenience. Your kid isn’t too young to be away from you, this is anxiety dressed up as being a good mom and it chips away at moms quality of life
My friend wants to plan a couples, no-kids weekend getaway, splitting the cost of a large AirBNB, in January for her 30th birthday. I really do not love this idea (husband is mortified), neither to spend the money nor to get someone to take the toddler for 3 days. It would be a 2.5 hour drive away for us, too, so it’s not like we’re close if something happens. I haven’t been away from him for even 1 night yet and he still just seems so young! It would be very hard to leave him for that long. Am I just a party pooper who needs to get over it? Genuine question. Like I actually need advice here guys

The best thing you can do for your child's outcomes is ensure you also have a life outside of them. And they should be aware of it too. "Mommy and Daddy are going to have some fun with thwir friends so youre going to have a sleepover at Grandma's tonight!" and if they cry, tell them to suck it up. It will teach them independence, that their mother is not an appendage of them, and it will help them develop their own sense of self seperate from their parents. Its also not a good thing for overall parenting if Mom is stressed to the tits because shes never taken a day off or time for herself. A relaxed and contended parent is a better parent. Its also good for your relationship with your husband to get out just rhe two of you and have adult fun once in a while, and that also has child rearing benefits. Parents who still have rhe spark because they also prioritize their relationship in addition to their parental duties are is a much healthier environment for a child than parents who have become strangers because they haven't seen each other as anything other than co parents in years. It will teach your child that they are not in fact the center of the universe, this is a crucial lesson many children these days never learn, to their great detriment as adults. In short, not only SHOULD you go to this event, but you should be REGULARLY going to these kinds of events with your husband (at least once or twice a month). Youll look forward to it for weeks and it will improve your relationship with your child because it gives you the opportunity to miss them. It is far more in the child's best interests to have happy, healthy parents with a happy, healthy relationship than it is to be in close proximity to a parent 100% of the time. In fact, being in constant close proximity to a parent 100% is actually harmful for your child's mental and psychological well being, they will become dependent and their emotional development will become stunted. They will be incapable of perceiving themselves as independent, capable and resilient human beings, something all healthy well-adjusted adults need to be able to do.

Reposting this banger from @ContraPoints. Leftists overestimate themselves massively. They're not nearly as eclectically well-read as they think they are.

I’m a liberal and I’ve read Marx, Engels, Mises, Hayek, Schumpeter etc. I’ve never met a socialist who has read the last three.

Not being away from your child for a single night in 3 years is mind blowing. Even if you don’t do this you and your husband should plan a staycation or something.

Every day, I’m reminded why a certain group of people are so miserable, and it’s because they do not value community or camaraderie in the slightest.
Pet peeve of mine is adults that make a very big deal about their birthdays & expect that their friends are obligated to participate

So tired of people’s politics just being endless wish casting, you don't get to decide what the voters care about, and repeatedly lecturing them about how they should care about the things that you care about isn't a good electoral strategy.
Yes, there is a way around it. Just consistently shut down the discussion. Dismiss it as the opponent distracting from real issues like gas prices, the war in Iran, and affordability. Nobody actually cares about this debate when their wallets are brought to their attention.

People who have kids often become self obsessed hovering freaks it’s insufferable. Parents were not always like this (you can’t leave your two year old with a trusted love one for a weekend, really? You need to be with them EVERY day no matter what ?)

the cowardly thing about John Oliver in my opinion is that he never ever ever ever ever challenges the biases of his overwhelmingly liberal audience or presents them with any information that might cause them to question their existing beliefs. it’s all just partisan comfort food
HBO's @LastWeekTonight has a long track record of citing social science findings without the appropriate context, massaging them to support whatever point @iamjohnoliver is trying to make.

If you’re not an Iowa voter who has voted for Trump before then please shut the fuck up because you’re not the intended audience of this ad If you’re criticizing this then you’re not a swing voter in Iowa.
#IAPol: "No Iowan should face discrimination. As a Paralympian, I also know it's important to have rules. It's why I oppose males competing in female sports ... I'm against taxpayers paying for sex changes, too." Josh Turek is up with a new #IASen ad. Future reservations: 🔵$18.0M 🔴$15.5M

We obviously haven’t had the major jobs wipeout yet. But you read stuff like this. And you read what economics students themselves are saying about working with AI (ht @odavis_h) and it’s hard not to feel like the seismic shift is on its way.

Vanguard: They're going to make their lane, I'm a simp for the most hackish and corporate Democrats imaginable. Keith: I think the Democratic Party is going to make a terrible choice and start to engage with these folks.

Tell me more about how people are not denying biological sex. Every time I mention this issue my mentions get flooded with people claiming that the trans movement OBVIOUSLY does not deny sex. And also other people who claim trans women are actually female Lmao
“It's why I oppose males competing in female sports" FUCK OFF Its not about the sports issue. Its about misgendering and demeaning an entire community. Fuck you @turek4iowa. I wish Wahls has won the primary.
