The right when Joe Public can't pay his leccy bill: "Work harder. Get a better job. That's how the market works."
The right when a business owner can't pay his wage bill: "This is egregious government overreach. Give billionaires more tax breaks."

It’s not a business though is it, it’s a country, pretty simple to know the difference

Heartbroken by the death of Sir Patrick Stewart.
From Shakespeare to Star Trek, he boldly went where few had gone before, and took millions of us with him.
He never forgot his roots, nor did he shy away from using his voice to stand up for others, particularly those affected by domestic violence.
May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

So insane that government communication right now is just: "Citizen, brace for [UNSPECIFIED IMPENDING DOOM]. No, we won't say what.
It's not climate change, though. That's fake."
24 years in the Marines taught me that being ready for emergencies is always a good idea.

Good to see some fresh new ideas in British politics. This cutting benefits thing, which Im sure we’ve not tried before, is sure to solve something.

The "Britain fought slavery" line is an offensive piece of historical re-writing. We were leaders in sponsoring, promoting and protecting the trans-Atlantic slave trade for hundreds of years. Ordinary people forced its abolition in the face of establishment resistance. 1/2
A former Attorney General has told GB News that Royal Navy sailors gave their lives fighting the slave trade and King Charles has “nothing to apologise for”.

I think this becomes quite understandable in the context of an international fascist movement that has swept much of the planet in a decade, with horrifying and very extreme consequences for the entire species

I see everywhere the right wins, they push for a mix of aggressive war, looting and destroying the public realm, impunity for corruption and war crimes, roasting the planet with hydrocarbons, deforestation, destroying public education, ethnic supremacy and McCarthyist crackdowns.

Anyone who’s had this will tell you the same. It’s important to understand: terror of transgender people as sex offenders is much the same thing as black-clad lads in the street shouting against migrants as sex offenders. They are different facets of the same reactionary project.
We're right back in last decade's stupid and discredited argument that the global financial crash was caused by too many libraries in Wolverhampton.
The bond markets turned on Truss because she promised huge unfunded tax cuts for the super rich, i.e, unproductive spending.
EXCLUSIVE:
Andy Burnham must “take the knife” to public spending in the budget or risk a Liz Truss-style crisis that will “crater” the economy and the government’s popularity, an ally of the prime minister has warned
Andy Haldane, a former chief economist at the Bank of England, said he feared the government would deliver a “mañana budget” that deferred the difficult decisions on public spending and “doesn’t speak to the urgency of now”
In an interview with The Times, he said that Britain was “close to being taxed out and maxed out in terms of borrowing”. He spoke of concerns that the government was failing to grasp how “precarious” the fiscal position was
He said that the government needs to cut the size of the state and reduce taxes if it were to “unleash the animal spirits and generate growth”
Haldane warned Burnham that he cannot “vibe-code” his way to growth, and raised concerns about the gap between the government’s rhetoric and the reality. He said that the government was effectively deferring the “day of reckoning”
He also said that the decision to increase taxes on banks could show that the government lacked the courage to cut public spending. He said the move was “penny wise, pound foolish” and sent a broader economic message that if businesses make profits “the taxman cometh”
Haldane said that while Burnham had the potential to be a “great prime minister” who could serve two terms, the economy was his “blind spot”. He said that the fiscal situation facing Britain was “precarious”
“The penny has not yet fully dropped, including in Downing Street,” he said. “You see that in us having the highest borrowing costs in the G7, despite not having the highest debts and deficits.
“It’s the old Hemingway [Ernest Hemingway, the author] thing, isn’t it? How do you go bankrupt? First slowly, then very quickly. The biggest risk to Andy not transforming Britain, to not serving two terms, to not being seen in the history books as a great prime minister, is not political risk.
“It’s not those who sit behind him. It’s probably not even those who sit opposite him in Westminster. Keir [Starmer] lost the dressing room. Andy’s biggest risk is that he loses the dealing room. And then that’s an even more painful way to go, as Liz Truss would tell you.”

Perhaps the situation is now so dire that we should all be utterly terrified of the hell that awaits? If so, I’d like to request a huge round of applause for generations of British statesmen, military planners, diplomats and economic theorists. What an incredible job to have done

People who defended Nelson Mandela when he was incarcerated by South Africa's Apartheid regime were supporting someone that the democratically elected US government had proscribed as "terrorist" (Margaret Thatcher famously branded the ANC a "typical terrorist organisation".
Replying to @NewStatesman
You don't get to support a proscribed terrorist organisation because you disagree with the decision a democratically elected government made to proscribe them. Cope.

Labour really did do it, they really did wait until after they'd won the by election against the Greens to say "yeah we're gonna drill the oil suckers, shoulda voted for Zack idiot"

What an endorsement! I'm sure the Labour Party is very proud to have banned Palestine Action at Trump's say-so and to have committed climate vandalism for his warm words.
