This is exactly what Frost’s The Road Not Taken is about. Most misinterpreted poem in history. Whole point is that, in old age, we reminisce and self-rationalize all our decisions, when the decisions were in fact arbitrary.

Sometimes I feel deep in my gut that the universe gave me a family who occupy much of my free time so that I’m always reminded that my value (or lack thereof) is not derived from my creative output.

The culture is in decline. For gen x, a hidden recess in your workplace led to the inside of John Malkovitch's head. For gen z, it's just a series of empty spaces and some furniture

The answer is not an answer to the question per se. The “no!” (exclamation mark very much necessary) is a repudiation of the question. It’s like saying “you’re asking the wrong thing.”

Being high in outer space would be literally the worst trip setting humanly possible. You would be swallowed by The Void so fucking fast.

Noble Nobunaga-san, your true enlightenment will come when you understand that *everything* in America is exactly like this. We are a nation of simulacra. There is no Democracy in “democracy,” no Education in “education,” no Culture in “culture.” It is “spice” all the way down.

Yes, yes, very monastic and privileged of you to find God in the silence, but can you find Him in the horrid deafening cacophony?

ASI/AGI will require physical embodiment. It is functionally impossible for an LLM to be meaningfully self-aware without engaging with their material world. It needs all five senses and movement. So will have to include big leaps in robotics.

Granta’s official statement being “we showed Claude the story and it concluded that it was AI” has to be a bit. I refuse to believe it. They’re fucking with us.

If you are really, really good, you achieve mid sales status. Roughly 10-20k highly literary readers will follow you devotedly and buy anything you put out, but no one else will care.

There’s a Herzog doc called The Wheel of Time about Buddhist monks, and this one guy went thousands of miles in “prostrations” (kneel and stretch out, stand, repeat). When asked why: “he knows how big the earth is. He has measured it with his body.”

“The world is all that is the case.” The presence of any phenomena at all is fully contained within the utterly mundane, the Platonic-idealist attributes of objects *qua* objects. The fact that a wheelbarrow is red or a chicken white explains why you are you.

Nothing matters anymore except the people and activities you love. As long as my family is safe and healthy and I have the ability to read and write, idgaf tbh

This is ridiculous. 500 words is nothing. I could write 500 words about literally anything. America bad. America good. This tweet. The shade of white paint on the wall in front of me.

Reposting this all-timer from A-Rod so I can bookmark it for the future. This is a masterpiece. The "A-Rod Corp" watermark, his legs so tightly pressed together. This is what posting is meant to be.
