Is “moderate” #alcohol drinking really safe? A new analysis in the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs confirms it is not.
Drinking an average of 14 drinks a week (two a day) was associated with a 1 in 25 lifetime risk of dying from 🍺 alcohol-related causes. At around seven drinks a week, the risk was about 1 in 1,000. It rose sharply above one drink a day, for both men and women.
The researchers found no protective effect of #alcohol at low levels. Even about one drink a day was linked to higher risk of death from #cirrhosis, oral and oesophageal cancer.
These are population-level estimates, not individual predictions.

Why Low Testosterone Isn’t Just About Getting Older: New U.S. Army Findings Point to Belly Fat
Key Points:
▶️ Age was not associated w/a steady decline in testosterone.
▶️ Gold-standard body fat measurements (DXA scan) more strongly explained changes in testosterone.
▶️ Waist size, an accessible & practical measurement, captured testosterone levels just as well as DXA.
▶️ Maintaining testosterone levels w/age may support a longer life in good health.

Most “red apples” are white inside. The ones that shifted ApoB are red all the way through.
-
In a randomized study of 121 adults with high cholesterol, anthocyanin-rich red-fleshed apples reduced LDL cholesterol, ApoB, and LDL particle measures compared with ordinary white-fleshed apples.
ApoB is the particle count that actually drives plaque. The polyphenols (especially anthocyanins) in the red flesh appear to improve how the body handles these particles.
This is a measurable shift in a key marker, not proof of fewer heart attacks.
High ApoB + inflammation creates a self-reinforcing cycle of artery damage — whole apples with skin interrupt part of it.
Try 1–2 red-fleshed apples daily with the skin on. Recheck ApoB in 6–8 weeks if you’re tracking.
Most “red apples” are white inside. The ones that shifted ApoB are red all the way through.
‼️ Confirm that the flesh inside is red or pink. Peak availability is fall.
Outside that window, options shrink to online specialty sellers or frozen/dried forms. One supplier is Lucy Rose Red Fleshed Apple.
Have you ever tried an apple with red flesh? 🍎

Ferroptosis Contributes to Porphyromonas gingivalis-Induced Vascular Endothelial Injury
🦷 P. gingivalis induced ferroptosis via SLC7A11 downregulation, which plays an important role in impairing vascular endothelial barrier integrity, providing a preclinical rationale for targeting ferroptosis in periodontitis‑associated vascular complications.

Can a single face photo help predict cancer survival?
New study @LancetDigitalH suggest that facial features encode both physiological ageing and imminent mortality risk, showing that consumer-grade photographs carry multiple physiological #health signals.
An #AI foundation model was trained on more than 40 million face images, including photos of people with cancer.
Among about 38,000 #cancer patients, those whose faces looked at least five years older than their actual age had a 21% higher risk of death, after adjusting for age, sex and cancer type.
Of patients whose estimated biological #age was more than 20 years above their real age, 21% died within 90 days. The model focused mainly on the area below the eyes and around the nose.

What if your thoughts became your next interface? 🧠
Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) are moving beyond the lab.
In 2026, a patient used a BCI at home for 3,800+ hours, producing nearly 2 million words [1]. Neuralink reported 21 trial participants worldwide [2].
And researchers demonstrated brain-controlled hearing that identified a listener's chosen voice with up to 90.3% accuracy [3]. 🚀
The opportunity extends beyond healthcare: AI, accessibility and human-machine interaction could become major competitive frontiers.
But scaling demands more than innovation. Leaders must address affordability, neural-data privacy and clinical safety.
🤔 Who should control the next human interface: patients, technology companies or regulators?

A new study in The Journals of Gerontology from @JohnsHopkinsSPH suggests that daytime napping habits in later life may help signal future #dementia risk.
Researchers followed nearly 1,000 older adults for about a decade, starting in 2013. Those who napped 😴 most days or every day had a 48% higher risk of developing dementia than those who rarely or never napped.
Falling asleep unintentionally during the day was linked to a 39% higher risk. Even short naps of 30 minutes or less were associated with a 40% higher risk after adjusting for other health factors.
If confirmed, changes in daytime sleep patterns could serve as a simple, low-cost early warning sign in healthy ageing.
