What is magnanimity? magnanimity.com/blog/magnani…
When Westinghouse was a young man working for his father’s shop on Saturday, he said when he has his own shop he would let workers have Saturdays off. And he did.

I saw it that sign as a little kid in Pittsburgh early ’60s while there on summer vacation. I felt it was mesmerizing. “A six-day workweek was the rule when George Westinghouse inaugurated the first Saturday half holiday in his Pittsburgh factory in 1881.”

I can't believe reddit bros erased the legacy of George Westinghouse (the main proponent of AC power) and attributed it to Tesla who invented the AC motor, not AC power as a whole. Tesla and Edison didn't have a rivalry! It was between Westinghouse and Edison!
That story about Tesla tearing up the contract isn’t true as he was paid a lump sum of $216k in lieu of royalties. But Tesla did have great respect for Westinghouse and his integrity. Nobody seems to question how a penniless Tesla is able to live in a NY hotel: Westinghouse arranged for Tesla to stay there for as long as he lived.

Nikola Tesla came to America from Serbia based on a promise from Edison that he’d pay him a large sum of money if he solved a problem. When Tesla solved it and asked for his money Edison said “surely you have no sense of humor, I was joking”. George Westinghouse hired Tesla for his hydroelectric power project on Niagara Falls. Tesla stood to make hundreds of billions in today’s money. When Westinghouse was on the verge of bankruptcy, Tesla tore up his contracts and said something along the lines of “money is of no value to me”. Tesla was very eccentric and would be considered ASD by today’s medicine, as would Einstein. Tesla died penniless and alone during WWII in the New Yorker hotel, in a room number divisible by 3. He was born during a lightning storm, studied electricity his entire life and died during a lightning storm.

George Westinghouse supported Tesla later in life. Not Edison.

Tesla and Edison were best at taking credit for accomplishments they didn't actually achieve.
The great unrecognized genius is actually George Westinghouse, through whose industriousness the AC system is ubiquitous today.
After 58 votes, an inanimate object is garnering 93% of those votes, beating out executives who are greedy and only think about themselves. So not surprising really.
Heroes are also people who go to work day in and day out without appreciation, much less applause, except for the knowledge that they are supporting those they love.
Wherever you find inspiration, let that inspiration be part of who you are. Put your own personality into it and make it your own.
