Schrödinger was a taxman. When you open the LC box do you see a loan or remuneration? HMRC see both.
I settled on LC. I will not pay IHT. Enough.
So final decision day today. Settle or fight. 7 open years (I know, never saw the lettters) offer to spread over 7 years. If we sell our home we can pay it. Though still have iht and loan recall worry.
Normal logic (which underpins our physical reality) says its: A loan OR Remuneration OR A gift.
HMRC logic which allows for (convenient) parallel universes says its all three. Probably.

It's hard to comprehend really...
MAX tax on something that in law is not owed.
HUGE IHT charges... (so is it income for a loan?!- HMRC can;t decide in my letters..)
So called loans being called back in by promoters.
Any point is my entire HARD working life?!?
Good man Terry, stay strong. Thanks for sharing.
Settlement letter on doormat today for post 2010 plus IHT and still coming after 2 x prior open years. I stopped when I saw first notification in 2014. Out of work due to IR35 and COVID. Is it just me or anyone else welcome a real (28 days later) pandemic.
No shame for Tories as they claim economy building whilst the Tory govt destroy the economy building flexible labour market with IR35 and destroy 50,000 law abiding contractors with trumped up loan charge.
Im on tory mailing list. Sajid Javid just warned me Id pay 2.4k tax under labour. Hes looking to avoid that getting tacked on to the £300k he’s already trying to steal from me with trumped up Loan Charge. What a saint.
HMRC comms strategy on avoidance 😂
If I do win the £169M tonight. Im going to live off/ enjoy/ waste about £5m and spend the remaining £164m on disrupting HMRC, defending worthy cases, pursuing individual civil cases against HMRC & Gov officials for corruption and incompetence.
I doubt there is a single MP responsible for this mess who will have the stomach to face you or the other families bereaved and forever altered by the pernicious retrospective #LoanCharge

And the reasons to dislike hammond continue to pile up.

Why is David Byers Times article so biaised? Yes some balance but errors & omissions including the #LoanCharge is a fine for ppl who didnt declare use of DR schemes and no mention of retrospective new law. Is Times editorial against us or just him?
If the loan charge isn’t stopped I will campaign for this instead -and I don’t care who wins. The whole corrupt mess needs a reboot. ARTICLE: Will Brexit Trigger England’s Second Civil War? - Bloomberg apple.news/AWti57SZsSDOrw50z…
Cant like that! @LCAG_2019 want to know about that
He actually believes what hes saying. Doesnt see the logical inconsistency, that he has become that which his greatest hero Adam Smith would have despised.
Listen to this clown. Talking about "the loss of respect for institutions" whilst presiding over and prolonging misery for 10s of thousands of innocent taxpayers whose lives are being destroyed by #2019LoanCharge. It beggars belief. You are complicit @Jesse_Norman
Yet another reason (on top of her neanderthal views on the #LoanCharge) to doubt Emily Thornberry’s sanity.
Good on you RenKat, well done for pressing your MP - and welcome to the twitter war on #LoanChargeScandal

Agreed.
@NickHurdUK my local MP... I as your consistuant humbly request your support for PM @BorisJohnson to suspend #LoanCharge #stoploancharge and ensure the review is fully independent.
This ordeal has been the breaking of so many families.
Well done for turning up and taking action.
Loved the #LoanCharge protest yesterday. Thanks to all the great volunteers, the MP’s that supported us. Now it’s down to us to make this slim chance of a review come true. Go #LCAG army
