If you're having a baby, honestly I don't care if pack three suitcases. I don't care if you park a uHaul on the sidewalk and have your husband recreate your childhood bedroom. I don't care if you repaint. I don't care if you file with the county for a permit to attach an ADU

Because my little girl is always either immediately next to me holding my hand or immediately next to me on the riding board attached to my stroller. A strike at the height that cracked his pelvis would have cracked her neck or head.

Incredible; this happened in my city. Love that. If it had been me out walking with my stroller, at least one of my children would be dead. Thanks for getting this guy back out on the street in record time Benny, really happy you could extract some personal meaning out of this

Maybe this is why he didn't give the guy's name -- without a doubt, that is the same person who victimized Benny xitter.cf/marcus_orly/status/211…

Was this the guy? I would have wanted him put away for good.

It wasn't particularly put of character, and presumably Benny knew that. Anyone in his position would at least Google search the guy who hit him, and when Benny did that he must have found this from the prior year.

Same guy the year before. Great job Benny, would have been real tragic if this guy actually had meaningful consequences for once in his sorry life

I am extremely skeptical about just ordering "intensive inpatient rehab" for people who do this, because A) a huge percentage of people will not stay sober regardless, and B) this does nothing to address the decision to drive, which is actually the most important element here

Uber didn't exist in 2005. There has been a slight increase over the years since ridesharing mainstreamed, even excluding the last data point

I'm not against diversion programs for first-time offenders, but they should put you through the wringer. Interlock with breathalyzer in your car, mandatory weekly meetings, etc. If you don't tick all the boxes, straight to jail Second-timers are a danger to society, period

Honestly the fact that near-universal accessibility of rideshare services has done nothing for DUI fatalities says something incredibly damning about this kind of offender Whatever we do to them needs to be extremely punishing
Imagine a drunk driver hits your kid in a crosswalk and you find out he would still have been in jail if not for his last victim fighting tooth and nail to keep him out

It's literally not better or kinder to increase rates of child disability and death in return for lower rates of incarceration for drunks who won't call a fucking Uber

The thing about a birthday is that it kind of applies the perfect amount of participation pressure for weekend plans -- you're not a bad friend if you can't make someone's birthday, but you do feel like you should probably try

The only defense I have for adults who throw big birthdays for themselves is that *a small subset* are actually great ladies who recognize that they're the natural event organizer in the friend group and everybody loves it when they make a weekend itinerary appear like magic
Everyones got a take but I think we are ignoring the real villain in this story: adults who want birthday weekends.

Even getting the pumpkin from the car to the house is somehow more annoying than the trip from the farm to the car. If we carve it at all it's purely out of obligation to amorphous ideas about childhood memories

For us we've peaked the moment the pumpkin goes in the car
I’ve modeled the median pumpkin carving experience.

We got hitched under a UFO at a rock garden. These are the details I know you'll appreciate, Simone 😂

Something slightly funny about my husband and I is that we eloped on Halloween so our anniversary is always... well, it's always Halloween
